Summer is almost here and EU borders are opening again next week, if you are planning to visit Spain and specially Barcelona in the future, I really recommend you to take some extra time and explore our Costa Brava and Costa Daurada to see some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Catalonia has amazing landscapes and I'm sure you will love it as much as we do.
Sadly it's kinda impossible to go by train and bus, so the best option is to rent a day and spend at least a day in there. Some of those places were also Medieval cities in the past, with beautiful monuments that can still be seen nowadays.
1. Begur
Playa Cala Aiguablava
In high season the beach vanishes and is completely covered by towels, if you do not arrive early in the morning, you will not be able to park your car! If you want to enjoy the beauty and also take a bath on its cristal water, I recommend you go in September or even on sunny days in October when the water is still hot.
Platja Fonda
It is a beach where you can be quite calm even during the most tourist weeks of the summer. Probably one of the reasons is that to access the beach you have to go down some steep stairs, which is why it is not such an easily accessible beach.
Sa Tuna
The beach is made of rocks, the water here is also transparent and super clean. The beach is well protected from the waves by the rocks of the Punta d'Es Plom that are located a few hundred meters from the coast. It is a true wild paradise and always quite calm.
2. Calella de Palafrugell
White houses, wooden boats on the beach, narrow streets and beautiful coves, Calella possess a magical atmosphere. If you are looking for some relax time, this place can be the best one for you
These beaches and coves are small oases where you can enjoy a sunny day and take a refreshing dive in the Mediterranean. For those who want to go to the beach with all amenities close by, Port Bo and En Calau can be your best option. Otherwise, you can discover some very charming beaches nearby.
Calella de Palafrugell is located 1h30 away from Barcelona.
3. Tossa de Mar
Tossa de Mar is a pretty town with cobbled streets, constructed around a magnificent ancient castle, located 1h24 away from Barcelona in the Costa Brava. The crystal clear waters and fantastic sea floor makes Tossa de Mar a paradise for lovers of diving and snorkelling. If you don't feel like trying watersports you can chill in the sand. As it's not too far from Barcelona, Tossa is perfect to spend the day and comeback at night or book a hotel in the zone to spend a few days immersing in the lifestyle of this town.
4. Cadaqués
Among the towns and villages on the Costa Brava, Cadaqués outstands for its genuineness and singularity.
The name of Cadaqués could result from the large amount of rocks in the area. Located at the oriental part of the peninsula of Cap de Creus, the city is 2h away from Barcelona, the town, which is considered as the jewel of the Costa Brava, has a history of thousands of years. A lot of painters and writers before Dalí visited Cadaqués such as Eliseu Meifren, Picasso, Duchamp, Max Ernst, Magritte and Antonio Pitxo.
The city is also home for the Salvador Dali Museum.
5. Sitges
Sitges is a Mediterranean coastal town, located in the Garraf area in the province of Barcelona,in Catalonia,Spain.
Sheltered by the Garraf mountains and due to its geographical position in the Mediterranean, Sitges has a warm climate that makes it possible to enjoy outdoor activities almost every day of the year. With four kilometres of beach with a delightful seafront full of restaurants and bars with a nice view, gives it a good excuse for a trip to Sitges. It is also a place with a large influx of gay tourists because it is a place where there has always been an open-minded, everyone is welcome regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation.
6. Tarragona
WIth a great cultural wealth, the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 2000. It is enough to enter this fantastic city and stroll through its streets to realize the great heritage of its Roman past. Tarragona city has a wide offer of sandy beaches and calm waters. Let's talk about two of them...
Cala Calafató, L'Ametlla de Mar

A marine villa that has easy to access and preserves family environment and the tranquility of old tourism. It has numerous of beautiful caves to discover and dogs are also allowed in there. Located near the municipality of Calafat, L'Ametlla de Mar is located 1h30 by car from Barcelona. The turquoise waters catches up with its fine sand, being a bit similar with Balearic Islands.
Platja De Cap Roig

Located approximately 2 hours by car from Barcelona, the Cap Roig beach in the municipality of l'Ampolla is located on the route of the cliffs, but they are not easily accessible and have all the necessary services for your visit.Spend a day with your family or in couple large sandy area that contrasts with the cliffs that surround it's waters, which you can spend hours inside. This is one of the best places in the area to spend a few days during summer.
